Data is ubiquitous, and value of big data and associated big data analytics have become
essential instruments in e-commerce and the digital economy. With the widespread use of data in the digital economy, it continues to exist in a fragmented state, where heavy regulatory stance (privacy policies and data protection) as well as data-as-an-asset approach by private companies silos individual data, and does not allow sharing.
The current user data environment is one-sided, where consumers have very little control or ownership in the digital trail of data that they leave behind every time they interact with
websites/apps or participate in the digital economy in some way. These issues are most

media operators, banks, or market companies etc. This would form the bed for an additional sustainable source of consumers for user data which would increase the incentives for end users who are giving up their data in the transaction and ensure longevity in such a data ecosystem.
The most immediate winner from a seamless and open-based digital economy would
undoubtedly be the e-commerce and retail sector. The ideal user experience stemming from an unhindered data-sharing economy would add tremendous value to an already trillion dollar online economy. The cost to market to users would be significantly reduced and become more targeted and efficient, hence less digital wastage and spam from costly marketing campaigns.

Not only did it grossly inflate the value of personal data but also raised concerns on the data’s utilizations, skewing the masses’ understanding of the value exchange between data owner and data user. Transparency is therefore key, to reassure people that data consumers are only acquiring the necessary data for building products and services.
