Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has emphasized that XRP holders and the Bitcoin community are not rivals in the crypto space. He highlighted the shared growth potential of both ecosystems, pushing back against the long-standing tensions between the two groups.
Garlinghouse pointed out that the crypto sector is not a zero-sum game. Garlinghouse thinks that Bitcoin’s achievement helps rather than stands in the way of Ripple’s growth. His words come at a time when there is new tension between XRP and Bitcoin communities, a conflict that began long ago.
The XRP community has recently criticized U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis for allegedly snubbing Ripple in favor of Bitcoin. According to reports, Garlinghouse was scheduled to meet with the senator, who ultimately canceled. He later took to social media, urging her to represent all digital assets fairly, not just Bitcoin.
The dispute escalated when XRP supporters uncovered anti-Ripple statements made by Will Cole, Lummis’s son-in-law. Last year, Cole called XRP a “centralized scam” on Twitter, adding further fuel to the divided discussion. A number of people in the XRP world believe the senator’s approach to Bitcoin overlooks other cryptos.
Ripple Faces Backlash Over Symbolic Anti-Mining Gesture
Sending a “Skull of Satoshi” sculpture to a Bitcoin museum earned Ripple criticism. Because of the artwork, many people in the crypto world felt strongly about the link to energy-intensive Bitcoin mining. Many who support Bitcoin once again pointed out that Ripple had tried to influence U.S. policy to prevent holding only Bitcoin reserves in the past.
According to Politico, a lobbyist once associated with the pro-XRP stance was recently removed from a White House role. This development further fueled speculation about Ripple’s behind-the-scenes influence on federal crypto policy and its long-running dispute with the Bitcoin-first narrative.
Garlinghouse’s recent words suggest that they are aiming for more inclusion. He pointed out that improvements in one part of crypto help the whole sector. It looks as if he is signaling that cooperation might be a better policy than competition.
Even though the statement will not solve all the disagreements, it shows that Ripple wants less tension between these sides. How much unity will drive change is still unknown, but adding this to the discussion helps break up the usual divisiveness.
