A major alert has been issued to crypto investors by trusted Dogecoin developer Mishaboar, who revealed that many users may be risking total asset loss unknowingly. In a detailed post on X, he warned that cold wallets, often promoted as the safest way to store crypto, still pose significant risks if not used correctly.
According to Mishaboar, the actual threat lies in a wrongful assumption of the functioning behind these wallets. He emphasized that cold wallets actually do not hold the wealth of cryptocurrencies, but the “seed phrase” is the master key to the locked wallets present in the blockchain.
Cold Wallet Myths Exposed: Why Your Crypto Isn’t As Safe As You Think
Mishaboar informs that every crypto, including Dogecoin and Bitcoin, exists within the blockchain. The sole thing that can access those funds is the seed phrase, which is only secured by the cold wallet.
A factory reset or the creation of a new seed phrase of the wallet, he warned, might result in the permanent loss of money. The person who has obtained your initial seed key can view and use your crypto.
To reduce risk, Mishaboar highly recommended users use several backed-up, “offline” copies of their seed phrases. He suggests that there must be no more than three distinct backups physically stored at different safe places, not online and not using the cloud service.
He was driven to his post by the posts that were circulating on Reddit saying that people had lost Bitcoin because they had updated their Ledger wallet. Such errors are typical of the crypto world, and they usually are not possible to reverse without some highly professional recovery tools.
Community Advised to Backup Seed Phrases Securely
In the crypto sector, security gurus keep advocating safety consciousness as phish attacks, bogus apps, wallet hacks, etc., rise. Mishaboar warning is not the first alert by Binance executives who frequently warn their users about AI-created artificial accounts and deepfake profiles that engage unsuspecting investors.
The commonly established belief in the blockchain community is that it is high time to educate users on such essential issues as “crypto wallet security,” “seed phrase safety,” and “phishing scam prevention.” Cold wallets are still one of the safest tools, but only when used correctly.
Investors are encouraged to prioritize the safety of the seed phrase as a bank vault key and keep it in the most secretive manner possible. A single error will take away a whole crypto portfolio, regardless of how safe the device might appear.
